Yahoo Search Now Powered by Bing

While the search ads are still from Yahoo, Bing is now powering Yahoo’s organic search results. In a statement released on Yahoo’s Search Blog on Tuesday, August 24 2010, Senior Vice President of Yahoo Search Products, Shashi Seth said, “Yahoo! Web, Image, and Video search experiences on both desktop and mobile devices are now powered by the Microsoft platform in the US and Canada.”

A simple search on Yahoo! for Rosemont Media shows the alteration at the bottom of the search results page, as noted in the following images showing the results. The only additional variation in the search results is the inclusion of News-related links associated with Rosemont Media and dental and medical website design in San Diego.

In a preemptive attempt to combat the fallout produced by the transfer to Bing, Seth continued, saying, “With this week’s milestone behind us, Yahoo! will continue to drive technology innovation in the search experience to bring more value to users and advertisers alike.” However, Seth’s encouragement still met some opposition in the first reader’s response, who stated, “This marks the end of the true Yahoo.” While that ending remains to be seen, the transition appears to be a seamless one thus far, with Yahoo! and Microsoft looking to the future, including the completion of the adCenter transition this fall, in preparation for the holiday season.
